Our Journey in Economic Education

How Altus Media COI came to serve the journalists shaping Colombia's financial narrative.

Where did Altus Media COI begin?

Altus Media COI grew from a simple observation made in Cartagena's media community: journalists covering financial stories were often doing so without the foundational knowledge needed to interpret what they were reporting. Not because they were incapable, but because that knowledge had never been made available to them in a form designed for communicators.

The gap between economic data and public understanding is wide. Closing it requires journalists who can read a central bank bulletin as fluently as a political speech. That insight shaped everything about how this center was built.

We are based in Cartagena de Indias and operate across Colombia. Our programs draw on real examples from the Colombian economy, its institutions, and its media landscape. The curriculum is not adapted from another country's model. It was built here, for here.

Our Purpose

What We Stand For

Three principles guide every course, workshop, and educational resource we develop.

Clarity Over Complexity

Economic concepts become accessible when they are explained in relation to real situations that journalists already understand. We never use jargon to impress. We use plain language to illuminate.

Education, Not Advice

Altus Media COI is strictly an educational institution. We do not provide financial advice, investment guidance, or any regulated financial services. Our sole purpose is building professional competence in economic journalism.

Rooted in Colombia

Every case study, every example, and every scenario in our curriculum draws from Colombian economic life. The Banco de la República, DANE, the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia, and local business coverage are our primary reference points.

How We Work

What makes our educational approach different?

Our workshops are not lectures. They are working sessions built around the actual tasks journalists face when covering economic stories. Participants leave with practical tools they can apply in their next assignment.
